Spider Farmer Quantum Board vs HLG 550 V2 Quantum Board Reviews

Just like the much more expensive fixtures from Horticulture Lighting Group, Spider Farmer fixtures use high quality dimmable Meanwell drivers and Samsung LM301B chips.

While HLG is the one who names their Samsung diode outfitted panels quantum boards, that term is now being used by consumers for any light that features Samsung diodes on a flat panel. As such, the SF series of fixtures can be said to use quantum board LED panels.

They are not available as DIY kits, like HLG quantum boards, but the ready-made SF fixtures sell for a lower price, so DIY wouldn’t make nearly as much sense anyway.

These grow lights for weed are more energy efficient than traditional LED grow lights. That’s partially due to the fact they don’t use cooling fans. Another reason is the LEDs they used in these designs are newer versions of diodes compared to grow lights that were designed years earlier but are still for sale today.

Spider Farmer's 2.7 micromoles per Joule is at the very high end of efficiency compared to most other grow lights that typically fall between 1.5 and 2.4 uMol/Joule.

HLG 550 V2
HLG 550 V2 RSpec LED grow light

The biggest advantage of the Horticulture Lighting Group fixtures are the quality components. Chief among them are the Samsung and Osram LEDs and the Meanwell drivers.

These high quality components are extremely efficient, delivering a high output, while consuming less power and generating less heat than almost every other light on the market.

The other major advantage of HLG fixtures is the form factor. The large panel makes for a more even light distribution. Let's take a closer look at the primary advantages of this light.

The HLG 550 V2 LED grow light comes with a full spectrum light. This spectrum is at 3000k for this HLG quantum board. This full-color spectrum especially focuses on the yellow and green light (invisible to the eye). As a result, this makes it responsible for the healthy growth of veg and flowers.

It comes with a 480w power draw that replaces a 1000w Single Ended HID. You can dim the light with the included dimmer to a minimum of 240w.

This HLG quantum board offers a perfectly diffused full spectrum light for a large area. It is probably one of the best lights on the market when it comes to light spectrum and coverage. Therefore, I must say that this is an amazing light. My plants love it!

Quantum LED Boards are here to stay and will surpass the more traditional LED grow lights we have seen. As this technology grows the price will fall as they become more mainstream for indoor growers.

Quantum boards led grow lights produce much better light, ideal for growing plants such as cannabis. As a result, we are excited to see what becomes of this growing technology.
