Quantum Board Vs COB LED Grow Lights

What’s a Quantum Board?
Quantum Board LED Grow Light is a large circuit board that has hundreds of mid-power LEDs mounted to it. The LEDs are connected together in series to form strings, and these strings are then combined in parallel configurations to make them compatible with common high-powered constant current drivers.

A quantum board LED is a newer alternative to the more expensive COB grow lights. The quantum board is a large circuit board in which a string of LEDs are connected forming “intelligent spectrum string” resulting in a broader spectrum and bigger plants. True full spectrum is the result.

What is a COB LED?
A COB (short for Chip-on-Board), is an LED packaging technology that describes mounting multiple LED chips directly onto a substrate to form a single module. Multiple LEDs, minuscule in size, are wired and packaged together into a single ceramic or copper board so that they function as a sole light source.

When a COB LED grow light package is energized, it appears more like a lighting panel than multiple individual lights as usually the case with other LED packages, like when using several SMD LEDs mounted closely together.

The advantages of chip-on-board LEDs are:

  • Compactness: far more LEDs fit into a much smaller space, meaning more output from a smaller area.
  • High-Intensity: since more LEDs are packed into a smaller space, the light is more intense, meaning deeper canopy penetration.
  • Design simplicity: only use 1 circuit with 2 contacts to energize all the chips on the COB array, reducing the number of components needed.
  • Lower failure rate: due to lower heat generation and better heat dissipation and fewer welding points (since each chip is mounted directly on the substrate, instead of soldered in place), quality COBs have a lower failure rate.

Spider Farmer SF 1000 LED Grow Light

What We Liked Most About This Product
If you’re seeking a quality quantum board LED grow light that is not from Horticultural Lighting Group, then you should try out quantum board LED grow lights from Spider Framer. This is another brand with lots of quality LED grow lamps on the market.

The Spider Farmer SF 1000 LED grow light is well constructed, very lightweight, easy to use, and very silent. This is because it doesn’t come with fans and built-in heat sinks.

If you want an economical COB LED grow light, look no further than the Rapid. This unit will effectively increase light photons by using less wattage.

The light is well-designed and very sturdy. Not to mention that it is remarkably bright for such a small unit. It promotes faster plant growth and high yields.

This light is recommended for a space of 2 to 3 square feet with respect to your plant’s growth phase, and it uses a reflector that increases PAR value for better growth.

The large size of the fixtures has another major advantage. It gives you a more even coverage. A smaller fixture emits light from a smaller point. The light then spreads outward. It has to travel further to get to the corners of the coverage area, which means the light is much less intense in the corners.

A larger fixture means the light does not travel as far to reach the outsides of the coverage area, so the light does not lose as much intensity. This results in smaller PPFD readings in the middle, but higher ones around the outside. In other words, a more even coverage.
